The uniqueness of the region

Ugra is located in the natural zone of the taiga forests, while in the north the composition of the vegetation is determined by permafrost. The fauna is represented by taiga fauna: mammals (including game species - ermine, fox, sable, reindeer, hare and others), birds (Charadriiformes, passeriformes and hunting ducks, capercaillies, hazel grouses, goose, and predators - eared An owl, a goshawk-goshawk). In the reservoirs of the region, fish live, including ruff, ruff, sterlet and 16 species. Sturgeon is placed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. In the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug there are two protected areas, several reserves, natural parks and natural monuments.

The overwhelming majority of the population is represented by Russian nationality, followed by Tatars with Ukrainians, and the ethnic groups that gave the name Khanty and Mansi - together account for about 2% of the total number of inhabitants of the region. The district has a very high urban proportion of the population - above 90%. Rapid growth and development of cities built with new and actively developed oil fields, and in old places of mining, there is a slow growth of urban settlements and even their stagnation.
