The Krasnoyarsk Territory is located in the Siberian Federal District, occupying almost 14% of the entire territory of Russia, and this is the second largest region in the Russian Federation. In the north it is washed by the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea, in the east it borders on Yakutia and Irkutsk Oblast, in the south - with Khakassia and Tuva. In the west, its neighbors are two regions, Kemerovo and Tomsk, and two autonomous regions, Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk.

The climate of the north and south is very different, but in general it is sharply continental with large temperature differences. The main climatic zones are three, arctic in the north, subarctic and temperate in the rest of the territory, they are delineated by the Yenisei. Summer in the north is very short, does not exceed 40 days, while in the south the average daily positive temperatures last from 110 to 120 days.

In the central plain fertile soils, forest-steppe, to the north the taiga extends thousands of kilometers, the density of the population there is extremely low. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory there are a huge number of lakes, and almost all of them are concentrated beyond the Arctic Circle. Some of them have healing water, and sanatoriums have been built on their banks.

Forests occupy over 70% of the territory of the region, mostly coniferous, in the taiga there is an industrial harvesting of wood. The fauna is very rich, the northern reindeer, commercial fur animals, foxes, ermines and sables, foxes and squirrels live in the north. In the rivers catch sturgeon, sterlet, grayling, taimen, whitefish. There are many reserves in the territory of the region.

Almost all the reserves of nickel and platinum-bearing ores of the Russian Federation are in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, here there are large gold reserves (20%), cobalt, magnesite, graphite, fine quartz sands are extracted. In the Kansk-Achinsk coal basin, coal is mined, and 25 oil and gas deposits are found. 42% of all lead reserves in Russia is located in Gorevskoye field. Uranium, bauxites, manganese ore are extracted.

The population of the region does not exceed 3 million, its density is only 1,2 per square kilometer. The national composition is dominated by Russians, about 2,5 million, followed by Ukrainians and Tatars.

Owing to the huge reserves of various ores, the region occupies the leading position in the country in terms of manufacturing industrial products for its energy resources. Non-ferrous metallurgy is developed, hydroelectric power station, Krasnoyarsk, Boguchanskaya work. The products are produced by the chemical and pulp and paper industry.

In Krasnoyarsk and other large cities of the region there are theaters, libraries, cinemas, higher and secondary schools of various profiles.
