The Nenets Autonomous District is part of the North-West Federal District, in Arkhangelsk region, as an independent subject of the Russian Federation, with an administrative center in Naryan-Mar. Occupies 20 place in the area and 83-e for the population, there is practically the lowest density, about 1 people per 4 square kilometers. The official language is Russian, but on a par with it is used the Nenets in places of residence of the indigenous people.

The Nenets Autonomous District occupies the northern part of the East European Plain, mostly in the Arctic Circle. The AO includes the islands of Vaigach and Kolguev, two peninsulas, Kanin and Yugorsk. From the north the district is washed by 4-me by the seas, it is the White and Barents, Pechora and Kars. In the southern part it adjoins the Republic of Komi, in the south-west it is adjoined by the Arkhangelsk region, from the north-east by the Yamal-Nenets AO.

The climate is subarctic with the transition to the Arctic in the northern territories. In January, the average air temperature from - 12 degrees in the south-western part to - 22 degrees in the north-eastern part of the AO. The average July temperature fluctuates between + 6 and + 13 degrees. Nenets AO is located in the permafrost zone, where half a year lasts a night and the northern lights appear.

The county has a large number of rivers, lakes and marshes. All rivers belong to the basins of the seas that form part of the Arctic Ocean. They are fed by their thawed waters (75%), in part - underground and rain, in this regard, the fullness of rivers is almost entirely dependent on the season. Ledostav lasts from 7 to 8 months, the ice reaches a maximum thickness at the end of the winter period, reaching 1,2 meters, small in the depth of the river freezes completely.

On the territory of the county, among the vegetation, mosses and lichens predominate, dwarf birch and willow, sedge of small species, grasses, shrubs of the shale form. In the Arctic zone, on the coasts of the northern seas, there is no continuous grassy or lichen-moss cover. There are few arable land, the main part of the territory is occupied by reindeer pastures. In summer there are a lot of berries in the tundra, among them honeysuckle, red and black currants, blueberries and blueberries, cloudberries and lingonberries. You can also find rose hips, raspberries and strawberries. In the southern part of the marshes there is a cranberry. The territory is rich in medicinal plants and mushrooms, the farther south, the more species grow.

The commercial value has reindeer, you can hunt protein, arctic fox, Wolf, moose, fox и wolverine, marten, otter, affection and ermine. Numerous invertebrates are inhabited in the waters, fishing is developed, about 50 species of fish live in coastal sea waters. Blood-sucking gnats are everywhere. In the industrial scale, ducks and geese, white partridges are shot.

In the district of 83, hydrocarbon deposits are already open, thanks to their chemical-physical properties and cleanliness, their production is highly profitable. There are minerals, coal, molybdenum, copper, manganese, nickel, gold and diamonds, but many of them have not yet been explored.
